Caringin Tilu

For real Bandung people, it's just a shame if they don't know about this place. It is a highland hill area on the southern of this city. Normally people go north to get to higher place in Bandung, but rarely know that the southern part has also more to offer. When you drive through the Pasupati highway, then go onward to the Padasuka street, then you will find the Saung Angklung Udjo. From there, go further upward through the narrow, climbing, and winding road. You will get to the high place known as Caringin Tilu. The name actually derrived from where the locals used to refer to the Caringin Tree (Banyan Tree) grew up in the area. There were three of them there, so then it is called Caringin Tilu (the Three Banyan Tree). The Banyan Trees are not there now actually. But what special about this place is that you can see Bandung city lights vastly and it seems so closed. If you're looking for different experience in enjoying Bandung at night, then surely you have to go here. Up there, you can find small food stalls, with simple construction using bamboo materials, but it is so cozy. The breeze might give you a challenge though. So, please do bring jackets, sweater, or windbreaker as they call it. In the food stall, you can just order hot coffee and enjoy the view of Bandung citylights.

Gang Tamim (Tamim Alley)

If you've ever been to Pasar Baru, maybe you can further explore the surrounding area. Actually not too far really, but only a few hundred yards behind Pasar Baru, you'll find an alley called Gang Tamim.

If you look at the shops around this hall, you may not see anything special. All the shops are as ordinary as those that sell grocery items. But if you look more closely, there are several shops around the alley that are always crowded surrounded by people who are shopping. What goods are sold in those stores until the people were crowded in there?

Pasar Baru (New Market)

In addition to exploring the distro and factory outlets, you can also traffic-jamming into the Pasar Baru (New Market). Long ago, this market was located farther south than the current location. But when it had a great fire, the market then was moved to this location. At that time also the name of this market become Pasar Baru (new market).

The building of this market is no longer as traditional market before. This market now has a storied building. Although at the bottom of this market is still available for those who still sell in traditional stalls. So why are the people from various parts of Indonesia, and even from Malaysia and Singapore, willing to traffic-jam coming to this market?
